When a user finishes the workout and checks the results, all interaction with the app stops. There was a considerable gap between present and future workouts. Users felt a lack of organisation and planning.
To solve that problem, we started thinking about how to make the app more useful when users aren’t working out.
At the time, the app didn’t provide any form of workout planner, and users were frustrated that they couldn’t build and plan their next workout. They tried to bypass this issue by combining the astonishing workout tracking of Atlon app, and another workout planner/builder app.
We saw the user engagement opportunity outside of just workout tracking. Naturally, we wanted to provide an in-house solution for the workout builder and connect it with a tracking algorithm for even better workout results, and give a full pre and post-workout experience to our users. This will not only provide a useful feature, but it will also give a sense of control over their workout routine.
We did a couple of interviews with our beta users to try to discover the pain points in the app.
We analyzed many different workout builders and planners that our users were using in conjunction with Atlon.
Based on the research, and data we got from our users, we mapped out our assumptions about the features and then sorted them by importance.
We mapped out all possible user journeys that one CrossFit-related workout builder might have. Including all types of CrossFit workouts.
First iteration
First wireframes were created and internally tested, after creating hi-fidelity mockups we brough them to real world for test.

After countless tests and design iterations, we came to the final solution that shipped to the app store.
When booked, the guided workout is discoverable on the apple watch. After finishing the segment you will proceed to the next one.
We saw a 48% increase in user retention. Users stayed longer in the app, and 85% of active users built and scheduled more than 3 workouts with Atlon’s workout builder.
